Who We Are
One of the key values for humanity today is KARUNA, which is Compassion & Kindness.
Compassion is a quality that has the strength to nurture the human spirit and the power to protect the Earth. By instilling this quality in young hearts, we can make the world a better place to live in. This is the goal of Karuna International. Shri Dulichand Jain realised the need for this virtue to be inculcated into young minds way back in 1991. It is through his vision and foresight that Karuna International was born with the aim of spreading the values of kindness and compassion in young hearts.
Karuna International is a registered nonprofit service organization whose sole objective is to awaken in children and young adults the inherent love, kindness and compassion towards all living beings, plants, animals and fellow human beings; as well as to appreciate and help in their own way to conserve our environment, as enshrined in our Constitution.
To reach out to young minds, the organization started Karuna Clubs in 3 schools in Chennai in 1991. From 3 schools in the first year, more than 1000 schools were reached by Karuna volunteers in the last decade alone. The activities of Karuna Clubs are coordinated by Karuna Kendras, who work closely with the Karuna Clubs, helping them organize programmes and activities in their institutions.
Over the years, KI’s teacher training programmes and student-friendly material have helped the schools to focus on the value of compassion. The format allows students to participate in karuna activities without any disturbance or pressure upon the school curriculum. The values of karuna are seamlessly weaved into the school curriculum and extracurricular activities without any undue pressure on either the students or teachers.
“It shall be the duty of every citizen of India to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wild life and to have compassion for living creatures.”
Karuna International is grateful to our supporters whose generosity has enabled us to sustain our work all these years. We ask all those who share our goals to reaffirm a commitment to the future we all hope to achieve. Together, we can make it happen!
